Super Mom

by @ngie on May 9, 2009

This morning an early Mother’s Day greeting found it’s way to my inbox. It seemed fitting to share with you the sentiments of my family. Mothers, I hope that this weekend you feel appreciated, loved, and valued.

In other mom news… it has been a while since I gave an adoption update.

In a word: paperwork. Somehow our ability to accumulate documents, stand (semi)patiently in line, pay fees and blindly follow instructions given to us by lawyers and government officials is proving that we are suitable parents. We are so close to the next big step as we get this and that together. Big step: present our intent to adopt to the judge. To do that we have to have all the right documents. Hopefully, a document that is being process which we are picking up Monday afternoon will be the last one we need to be able to do that. I will be so glad when we have our official request in. So glad.

In closing, I am interested in hearing what is super about your mom. Why not share a comment?

Happy Mother’s Day!

Happy Mothers Day!

My mom taught me, through words and actions, how to love my husband and raise my kids. I have so many good lessons because of her.

Oh Ang! How exciting that you’re nearing closer to your little girl! This time next year you’ll be sharing your FIRST mother’s day with her!! How exciting will that be!!?! And, yes, I’m still believing to meet her this summer! ;o)

My mom was a super mom because she sacrificed so much for the betterment of us kids. In so many ways…not getting a new winter coat cuz finances were tight. Working an odd job so that we could continue music lessons, sports, etc. Yet at the same time teaching us to work hard and take responsibility (and the consequences that comes with it)!

I was just telling someone the story yesterday how my mom at a very early age tried to teach me how to make decisions, accept responsibility and then deal with the consequences. I was about 8 or 9 years old and had 2 summer camps that I wanted to go to…but they were the same week. She took a piece a paper and put “Girl Scouts” on the left side and “Church camp” on the right and drew a line down the center and set a timer for 5 minutes and assigned me the duty to write the best things of both camps. When the timer went off she then drew a horizontal line and reset the timer and then told me to write the things I disliked most at both camps. When the timer went off, she then reset the timer for a third time and told me that I needed to choose which camp I was going to go to and then she would not hear any “belly aching” about my choice. I was to live with it. I remember crying at that table trying to decide what to do. I did chose…but to this day I can’t tell you which one it was (although my hunches would guess church camp!).

There was also a time that I wanted to quit piano lessons because I disliked my teacher. Mom told me that if I wanted to quit it was my responsibility to tell my teacher. Needless to say, I did have the gumption to do so….so I continued on. Until the day she “fired” me because she was moving out of town. (And I was devastated!!)

I also had to replace a tire on her car when I was 17 cuz I ran over a curb and split it! Perks of driving, she said!! :o )

You know, it might of been tough lessons, but they were truly life lessons. I hope I’m wise enough to teach the same kind of lessons to my children!

Livvy Lu – Sometimes the hardest part of being a mama is allowing our kids to learn those lessons. Your mother did well by you. Thank you for sharing.
