you are funny! i don’t know how many times kevin and i have chased the gas truck around. the funny thing is if you miss it you are in trouble right? ours only comes when they want to and at all times during the day.
I’ve been pleasantly surprised here in Mexico…apparently there is enough competition for the cooking gas that the trucks are pretty regular. There are about 4 or 5 different companies and each truck has their own unique sound…one dings a bell, another plays La Cucaracha in horn tones, etc. They start around 6:30 a.m. every single day! We are fortunate to have a stationary tank and all we have to do is pick up the phone and they come within an hour! This has not always been the case in the different countries we’ve been in…our stories are usually more like yours! ha! Loved the video, btw…nice kitchen!
This is funny. I think the English word for the carava might be gas bottle? Fortunately, we don’t have to chase a gas truck. In Mali they are sold at the gas stations and sometimes at hardware stores. We only have to drive 50 miles to get there and it might happen that they have run out of it, so you go back and forth with your rattling and smelly gas bottles. Or you leave the empty bottles with colleagues in town. Of course, because of this we have quite a few to be sure we never run out, because our fridge also runs on gas.

I have to show my daughter this when she wakes up, she teaches a missionary story once a week to kids at an after school thing, and you and her are so the same telling a story!! I am just feeling the need for the replacement, and take something else, but if I can not cook, devastation will set in on me…no doubt! I am not a fancy cook, but hot food ..i think i need it.

Gas tanks. We have a similar thing for propane, and we call it a tank. Cute video.
I had a fireman come in to the highschool the one day I went to highschool with a friend in Brasil. He showed us how to put out a fire if one of those tanks started shooting flames. It was cool, although, honestly, I’ve never heard of one of those tanks catching fire.
I can just see you begging the guy to come back!

My gracious, I can’t imagine…so it’s not just piped in to your stovetop/oven…weird!!!
Michelle – Well, there is a line to the house. We haven’t actualized it yet because we would have to invest in converting that itty bitty stove. Instead, we would like to purchase a larger stove more suited to the size of our family that is already set up for a gas line rather than a gas tank. Someday.

In Kenya we call them gas bombs. When we think about it, we call them gas cylinders as we really don’t want them to be bombs. It took 2 hours to download your vlog in bits and starts, but it was fun. (luckily I had things I could do in between the bits and starts!) We take ours to the gas station. We have two in my town and only one of them carries the correct type of cylinder. Sometimes they don’t have full ones. So, we leave the empties and hope full ones come in the next month or so. We also keep several to make sure we don’t run out! Otherwise, we have to drive 8 – 9 hours over a very bad road to replace our empty ones.
