Park (n.) in Spanish is “parque”.
Park (v.) in Spanish is “parquear”.
Parking lot in Spanish is “parqueo”.
Why do we park? Because we are not meant to be in motion all the time. Why does ‘walk in the park’ have such a pleasant lackadaisical connotation? Because we go to park our brains, park our planners and park our rumps even. And even if we are running, climbing, spinning, swinging, sliding or just wandering around we are still parking the “productive” part of our being that needs a break. And during that time we are parked we breathe, we take in the wonders of creation, we stop worrying and start wondering. Wonder is an indispensable element for a wonderful life.
When was the last time you parked?

Oh, I love that you’re looking at it this way! When I saw the opening and the intro I thought you were going to be talking about complacency. What a great thought – that rest is a blessing. I agree.
“Why do we park?”
I like to go to the park to watch the cops give tickets to the local migrant workers for their open containers. They never seem to learn that you can’t carry an open bottle or cup or beer around the park. Plus, it is always fun to watch the cop look in vain for a translator and then try to communicate “no alcoholic beverages” in sign language.
I was just wondering the other day what is so intriguing about “going to the park”.
The last time? A few weeks too long.
